Benazir Assassination Cover Up Deepens

Benazir Bhutto the first woman PM in an Islamic state was leaving an election rally when a gunman shot her in the neck and set off a bomb.
At least 20 other people died in the attack and several more were injured.

Her death has become a matter of contention in Pakistan. President Musharraf's government has claimed her death was carried out by a lone sun roof under orders from Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud.

They claim she must have hit her head against the lever when she ducked to escape the assassins' bullets. He denied that her body carried any gunshot wounds. Interior Ministry spokesman, Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema also suggested a Mafia involvement in revenge for Ms Bhutto's alleged money scandals and even hinted that suicide had not been ruled out yet .

Members of Ms Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) say that she was shot in the neck, and that the bullet exited from the back of her head.

Party spokeswoman Sherry Rehman who was with Ms Bhutto at the hospital said," The magic sun roof theory is just insane she had two wounds that bled profusely."

Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema said that he was satisfied by the findings of their investigation and the report of the doctors who did not mention any bullet wounds. The sun roof lever will be made an example of and probably will endure a massive nationwide recall.

His condolences go out to the family of the suicide bomber as he must have been a very troubled young man to want to end his life so dramatically, its terrible when they fall through the cracks of society and have no where to turn.

President Musharraf made a bold statement on Pakistani TV: " As soon as the USA makes available to us the funds to repair our military helicopter and provide cool sunglasses for our personnel we shall hunt down the Taliban in South Waziristan and bring these murderers to some form of justice."

Ms Bhutto had already voiced concerns about the lax security that protected her and in the video of the assassination no security forces are in sight, even with this Ms Bhutto said she would not be cowed and continued to campaign for the restoration of democracy.

Ms Bhutto's husband, Asif Zardari, refused permission by the Home secretary for a post mortem examination saying, " Reports can be manipulated , Musharraf is a lying sack of poo. We know how she died."

The Taliban was blamed when a Waziristan senator provided evidence to an Italian news agency in the form of a telephone conversation allegedly with Mr Mahsud and the sun roof saying well done on a job though Ms Bhutto's name was not mentioned. Mr Mahsud's spokesman has promptly denied involvement in the murder and said the conversation was fake and it was all Pakistani politics.

The Mafia have remained suspiciously silent throughout the whole affair.
